Session Overview:


This course provides a comprehensive overview of strategic communications for offices of inspectors general (OIGs). Participants will learn how to develop and implement effective communication strategies that align with their OIG's mission and goals. The course covers a variety of topics, including crisis communication, media relations, and public engagement. Participants will also learn how to leverage social media and other digital tools to reach their target audiences. Additionally, the course will emphasize the importance of crafting compelling messages, developing comprehensive communication plans, and utilizing storytelling, symbolism, and other artifacts to persuade and influence key audiences. By the end of this course, participants will be able to develop and implement strategic communication plans that will help their OIGs achieve their mission and goals.


Learning Objectives:


  1. Define key terms and concepts in strategic communication, such as crisis communication, media relations, and public engagement.
  2. Identify the primary audiences and stakeholders of an OIG.
  3. Explain the importance of strategic communication for OIGs in achieving their mission and goals.
  4. Describe the different communication channels and tools available to OIGs.
  5. Develop a strategic communication plan that aligns with an OIG's mission and goals.
  6. Create compelling messages and stories that resonate with target audiences.


Instructional Delivery Method: Group Internet Based


CPE Credits: Attendees may be eligible to receive up to 1.2 CPE credits in Communications and Marketing. To ensure compliance with NASBA CPE standards, throughout the webinar, AIG uses Conferences i/o, a digital attendance recording platform to conduct check-ins throughout the webinar. There will be four check-ins per 60-minute block of instruction. The numerical check-in codes will be displayed on the screen. You will access the app through WebEx. For this webinar, to receive full credit, you must enter the four numerical codes that will be displayed throughout the session.
