Due to the impacts of Hurricane Idalia on the state of Florida, the webinar was postponed to Monday, November 13 and Tuesday, November 14, 2023.

The Association of Inspectors General (AIG) Florida Chapter Virtual training is an eight-hour program, presented virtually via WebEx, broken into two four-hour blocks. The first four-hour block will be presented on Monday, November 13, 2023, and the second block on Tuesday, November 14, 2023. Both blocks will be presented from 8:30 AM ET to 12:30 PM ET. The program will include eight instructional sessions which will enhance attendees' knowledge of the presented topic and how the topic pertains to their role in the inspector general community, with a focus on Florida. Presented topics include cyber security strategy and legislative updates, effective prosecution techniques, case trends from local offices of inspector general, public records law, whistle-blower investigations, internal controls, and code of ethics. Attendees will be eligible to receive 8 CPE Credits. Please see below for a complete breakdown of CPE credits. Attendance and attentiveness are monitored by WebEx and through codewords presented randomly during the event. A WebEx Link will be provided for each day of the webinar.

Day 1 - Monday, November 13, 2023

Insights from Florida's Chief Inspector General (1 CPE: Specialized Knowledge)

  • Understand the State of Florida's enterprise cyber security strategy and its relation to the inspector general function.
  • Understand changes made as part of the 2023 legislative session affecting Florida inspectors general.

Tips and Tricks – What a Prosecutor Needs from an Investigator (1 CPE: Specialized Knowledge)

  • Apply "tips and tricks" shared by the instructor to successfully prosecute an inspector general investigation.

Florida Local Government Offices of Inspector General Case Trends (1 CPE: Specialized Knowledge)

  • Identify trends affecting local offices of inspectors general in Florida and how they may relate to the participant's office.

Florida Sunshine Law – What You Need to Know About Public (1 CPE: Specialized Knowledge)

  • Possess a refreshed understanding of Florida's public records law as it pertains to inspectors general.

Day 2 - Tuesday, November 14, 2023

Florida Whistle-Blower's Act (1 CPE: Specialized Knowledge)

  • Possess a detailed understanding of the Florida Whistle-blower's Act to include the complaint intake and investigations process.

Internal Controls – Why Auditors and Investigators Should Care (1 CPE: Auditing)

  • Possess an understanding of the application of internal controls to business, and how the inspector general audit and investigations function applies to these roles.

Florida Code of Ethics for Public Officers and Employees (2 CPE: Regulatory Ethics)

  • Possess an increased understanding of the Florida Code of Ethics for Public Officers and Employees, and the inspector general's role in oversight.
